Mary Cleere Haran, 1952-2011
I met Ms. Haran surrounding her performance of standards with Peter Duchin at the 2007 Orpheus Gala. Though we chatted for the first and only time that night, I was struck by the infectious ease and lightheartedness with which she carried herself: a no-frills artist who was certain that everyone was going to have a good time.
And we did.
It’s a shame that the American Songbook has lost one of its great standard bearers. I remember Ms. Haran as a class-act, a true professional.
